Palworld Tier List
All 299 Pals ranked S through D on four axes: overall usefulness, combat power, base work output, and breeding rarity. Every tier is computed from Palworld's own data files rather than voted on.

Ranking
Combat power and base work output combined — the best all-round Pals in Palworld.
Astralym is left out of the Overall and Workers rankings because its work suitability is not published.
How tiers work
S Tier The top 5% on the active ranking — the Pals worth building a team or a base around.
A Tier The next 15%. Strong, reachable picks that carry most of a normal playthrough.
B Tier The next 30%. Solid mid-game Pals; useful, rarely the best option available.
C Tier The next 30%. Early and mid-game filler you will replace once better options appear.
D Tier The bottom 20%. Starter-area Pals, kept for capture bonuses and cheap breeding fodder.

60 PalsHow this Palworld tier list works
Most Palworld tier lists are one person's opinion after a weekend of play. This one is computed. Attack, defense, HP and all twelve work suitabilities are read straight out of the game's own data files, so the ranking reflects what Palworld actually gives each Pal rather than launch-week hype.
Tiers are shares of the field, not fixed score thresholds: S is the top 5%, A the next 15%, B the next 30%, C the next 30%, and D the bottom 20%. That keeps S tier meaningfully small no matter which ranking you switch to, and it means a tier always answers the same question — how does this Pal compare to every other Pal.
Every entry links to that Pal's breeding page, so the tier list doubles as an index. Find something you want, tap it, and you land on the full list of parent pairs that produce it.
The Overall ranking weights combat at 60% and base work at 40%, after normalizing both to the same 0-100 scale so neither swamps the other. That weighting is the one judgement call on this page, and it is stated here so you can discount it: if you only care about fighting, read the Combat ranking directly rather than trusting the blend.
Combat stats and work suitability are extracted from the Palworld 1.0 game files via PalCalc (MIT) and cross-checked against paldb.cc. CombiRank comes from the revised 1.0 breeding table. Data verified 2026-07-31
Who are the best Pals in Palworld?
On raw combat, the top of the list is Astralym, Panthalus, Frostallion Noct, Frostallion and Necromus, followed closely by Shaolong, Bellanoir, Bastigor, Neptilius and Jetragon. These are the endgame legendaries, and the gap between them and everything else is real — Panthalus carries 200 defense and 180 HP where a mid-game Pal sits near 90 of each.
For base work the answer is completely different. Dandilord, Silvance, Renjishi, Lyleen and Dualith top the worker ranking, because work output has almost nothing to do with combat stats. Dandilord alone covers planting at level 8, handiwork at 6, medicine production at 6, gathering at 5 and transporting at 3.
That split is the reason this page has four rankings instead of one. “Best” depends entirely on what you need the Pal for, and a single list that averages fighting and farming into one number tells you very little. Use Overall as a starting point, then switch to the ranking that matches the job.
How the combat ranking is calculated
Combat rating is attack weighted at half, with defense and HP splitting the other half as survivability. It is deliberately simple: you can recompute any Pal's rating by hand from the three stats shown on its card, which is not something an opinion-based tier list lets you do.
What the rating does not model is element matchups, partner skills or active skill kits — a Pal with a strong element advantage will beat a higher-rated Pal it counters. Treat the combat tier as the baseline, then check the matchup before a tower boss.
Best Pals for base work
The Workers ranking sums a Pal's levels across all twelve work suitabilities — kindling, watering, planting, generating electricity, handiwork, gathering, lumbering, mining, medicine production, cooling, transporting and farming. A Pal that does five jobs at a middling level outranks one that does a single job well, which is what you want when base slots are limited.
If you need one specific job filled instead, read the work tags on each card rather than the tier: the best miner and the best planter are rarely the same Pal, and a C-tier worker with level 4 in the one job you need will beat an S-tier generalist at that task.
The breeding ranking: what is CombiRank?
CombiRank is the hidden number behind Palworld's breeding formula. When two Pals breed, the game averages both parents' CombiRanks and hatches the species whose own rank sits closest to that average. Legendaries carry single- or double-digit ranks; starter-area Pals sit near 3000.
Because the result is an average, you cannot leap from two common Pals straight to a top-tier egg. You climb the ladder instead, each generation pulling the average lower. The Breeding rarity ranking sorts by that value, so it doubles as a difficulty ranking: the higher a Pal sits, the longer the chain needed to hatch it.
Filtering the Palworld tier list by element
The element tabs narrow every tier row to a single element: Neutral, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Ground, Dark or Dragon. Dual-element Pals appear under both of their elements, which is why the per-element counts add up to more than 299.
Combine the element filter with the Combat ranking and you get the practical answer to most team-building questions — the strongest Ice Pal you can realistically get, for instance, before walking into a boss that punishes the wrong element.
Using the tier list to plan breeding
Pick a target in S or A tier and open its breeding page. You'll see every parent pair that produces it, and the pairs drawn from the tier just below are almost always the cheapest realistic route.
Variant forms such as Ignis, Cryst, Noct and Lux rank far below their base species on CombiRank, which is why they cluster at the top of the breeding ranking and why they're among the most valuable targets in the game.
If you'd rather not read a chain backwards yourself, the breeding planner takes the Pals you already own and returns the shortest path to any target on this list.
Palworld tier list FAQ
What is this Palworld tier list based on?
Game data, not opinion. Combat uses attack, defense and HP; Workers sums all twelve work suitabilities; Breeding rarity uses CombiRank, the internal breeding value; Overall blends combat and work. Stats are extracted from the Palworld 1.0 files and cross-checked against paldb.cc.
Who is the strongest Pal in Palworld?
By raw stats, Astralym, followed by Panthalus, Frostallion Noct, Frostallion and Necromus. Astralym carries 200 attack, 200 defense and 200 HP, the highest in the game. Element matchups and partner skills still decide individual fights.
What is the best worker Pal?
Dandilord has the highest total work suitability in the game, covering planting, handiwork, medicine production, gathering and transporting. Silvance, Renjishi, Lyleen and Dualith follow. For one specific job, check the work tags rather than the tier.
Why do the four rankings disagree with each other?
Because they measure different things. Combat stats and work suitability are almost unrelated in Palworld, and breeding rarity is a third axis again. A Pal can be S tier for base work and D tier in a fight, which is exactly why one combined list would be misleading.
How are the S, A, B, C and D bands decided?
By share of the field: S is the top 5%, A the next 15%, B the next 30%, C the next 30%, and D the bottom 20%. Nothing is hand-placed, so switching rankings re-sorts every Pal automatically.
Is a higher-tier Pal always better?
For the axis you're looking at, yes by definition. For your actual situation, often not — element matchups, partner skills, and whether you can realistically obtain the Pal all matter, and several early Pals stay useful for a whole run.
Why is Astralym missing from the Overall and Workers rankings?
Its work suitability isn't reliably published anywhere, and ranking it at zero would state it's a bad worker, which the data doesn't support. It still appears in the Combat and Breeding rarity rankings, where its stats are known.
How often is the tier list updated?
The underlying data is re-verified against Palworld 1.0 patches. When Pocketpair adds Pals or changes stats, tiers shift automatically, because they're computed from data rather than hand-placed.
